HGTV Green Home 2011: Front Yard Pictures

Inspired by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright and combined with subtle nods to airplane design, the front facade of HGTV Green Home serves up both style and comfortable outdoor living space.

The landscape design incorporates native and ornamental grasses growing in the park across the street from the home. In keeping with the home’s prairie style, plants and shrubs that comeplement the vertical design were chosen.

English oak creates a privacy fence to buffer the outdoor space from the road. “We wanted the owner to have the ability to sit and enjoy that outdoor fire pit without having to see everybody that walked by,” says landscape architect Brad Fox.

“Everything has an element of design,” says Brad. Landscape plantings were chosen to complement the vertical nature of the home and for their drought tolerance.

Ornamental grasses add texture and color in the front yard. Varieties include Karl Foerster grass and fescue. Globe conifers were added in the front yard to lend texture during winter months.
