The main bedroom suite continues the neutral color theme started in the common area, but this retreat takes these colors and makes them bolder, richer for the private space. The bed is made from recycled lumber by a local craftsman — some is even recycled from the Green Home job site. The mattress is made of eco-friendly foam. On the bed, interior designer Linda Woodrum used high-quality sustainably manufactured linens, with crisp white sheets and a drift of white pillows. The duvet and quilt are cotton and the throw across the end of the bed is silky bamboo.

The crewel-work pillows are adorned with flowers, which mirror the linens and art throughout the home, which all look like flower and plant cuttings. "The subtle story is the organic shapes, the flowers. These are very low-key, but it appears everywhere," Linda says.

Extra storage was added by using two chests of drawers next to the bed. Linda used pine chests and antiqued them in white to create a visual frame for the bed. The bedside lamps are made of recycled tin and aluminum, and their fun look is enhanced by the lotus-leaf finials on top of the shades.

Across from the bed is a reading area, with two slip-covered arm chairs flanking antique wicker shelves. The apple-green chairs add a pop of color in what would otherwise be a subdued room. Above the shelf unit Linda hung a flat-screen TV, which eliminates the need for a bulky armoire.
