Expert stylist Carley Knobloch hosts a tour of the 2014 HGTV Smart Home's covered porch. This covered porch has little furniture but a long L shaped bench with beautiful fabric seats with built-in speakers and LED lighting.
Steve Watson from HGTV's "Don't Sweat It" shows how you can give your porch charm and character by hanging a porch swing. It's an easy project, and you'll need a tape measure, level, drill, bits, a socket set, and of course the swing itself. First, find the ceiling joists. You may need to add extra joists for more support. If you have regular ceiling joists, use a screw eye bolt; for flat joists, use a through bolt. Pre-drill holes into the joists, making sure the spacing matches that of your swing chains. Next, hang the chains and assemble your swing. Finally, hang the swing, making sure that it's level.
