Giving a bottle of wine as a gift is a no-fail. Add your own personal touch with a mulled cider seasoning pack and you have a guaranteed hit. This mulled wine kit is easy to assemble, just add a decorative touch. These directions make four kits.
Materials
- 1 12-by-12 inch fabric square
- 40 whole cloves
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 20 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
- 1 whole nutmeg, grated
- 1 tsp. ground ginger
- 4 8-inch lengths of string
- 4 bottles of red wine
- 4 gift tags
Directions:
Cut the fabric into four evenly-sized squares. Lay each one out on your work surface and to the center of each, add: 10 cloves, 5 cardamom pods; 1/4 of the ground nutmeg and 1/4 teaspoon of the ground ginger.
Gather up the edges of the fabric squares to form small bags and tie securely with the string. Attach a cinnamon stick to each bag and make a loop to hang over neck of the wine bottle.
Create a gift tag for each bottle that reads: Combine the wine, spice bag and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar into a pan. Heat gently, without boiling, until the sugar dissolves, then add 1/2 cup orange juice and 2 tablespoons brandy. Add one small, sliced orange with the peel on, stir and serve.
Hang a spice bag and gift tag on each wine bottleneck.
