Fall gardens are still filled with life and activity. As the garden prepares for its winter slumber, it provides us with a bountiful harvest of squash, gourds and pumpkins. Spiders too are still busy at their craft, spinning their webs to catch their next meal. Each web is a work of art. I was inspired by them to create a versatile outdoor mat that is the perfect way to greet fall guests, trick-or-treaters, or add a touch of whimsy to the family entryway.
The base of this rug is a cocoa mat that can be found in large home improvement stores. This craft is also a great way to spruce up an outdoor rug that has seen better days. With a few coats of spray paint, any rug can be transformed into a work of art. I used outdoor quality paints to help extend the life of the painted details on the mat.
The spiderweb on this mat is versatile. You can use the pattern that I share here or come up with your very own ideas. Try sketching out your design first on a piece of paper to get an idea of what your web will look like. Here is what you will need to get started on this craft.
Supply List:
- An 18" x 30" cocoa mat
- Black outdoor spray paint
- White outdoor craft paint
