Ingredients
- 1 pie crust dough
- flour for rolling
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup cherry pie filling
- caramel sauce, optional
Instructions
Roll pie crust dough to 1/4"-3/8" thick, shaping it as close to a rectangle as possible. Use flour as needed on the surface and the rolling pin to prevent sticking. Use a pizza wheel to cut long strips of dough about 1/4" wide. Cut the strips in the opposite direction making each "fry" about 4 inches long. Carefully transfer the strips to a parchment lined baking sheet. Cover with cling film and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before baking.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the chilled dough for 12-15 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the tray.
Place the cherry pie filling in a food processor or blender. Blitz until smooth. Serve a handful of fries with a pot of cherry "ketchup" or a pot of caramel sauce.
TIP: As an alternative, sprinkle fries with cinnamon sugar as soon as they come from the oven. Serve with caramel sauce or a small pot of cream cheese icing.
