A family's remodeled home still needs a stair railing that's up to code. HGTV expert Eric Stromer installs the newel post, installs the shoe rail, attaches the spindle and handrails and then stains the post and banister. As a finishing touch, he helps install a door to the storage space below the stairs.
Joanna admits this entryway was a design challenge, but mixing materials made it possible to blend the homeowners' traditional and rustic styles. Adding a chair rail and redesigning the stairway made the space modern and inviting.
Wooden steps are beautiful but can be slippery and cold underfoot. Add warmth, softness and safety by installing a stair runner. Using inexpensive woven table runners, this project is a snap to do yourself.
