Materials Needed:
- pumpkin (scooped and cleaned out)
- cookie cutters
- rubber mallet
- sharp paring knife or pumpkin carving knife
Position Cookie Cutters and Tap
To begin, carve out the pumpkin guts and select a few of your favorite cookie cutters. You could try letters, flowers, stars — virtually any shaped cookie cutter. Pick one and position it on the pumpkin, then tap lightly with a rubber mallet.

Let the Kids Help
Even small children can participate in this simple step.

Cut Through Shapes With a Knife
Once the cookie cutter is all the way through, it's time to get out a knife. Obviously, this is an adults-only step. Keeping the cookie cutter in place, insert your knife and cut through the pumpkin skin.
Once the carving is done, add a candle and you're good to go. Kids love the pumpkin carving process but the projections of the carvings on the wall are an added bonus.
