Figure B
Materials:

large cable spool
chain and washer
scrap wood
drill/ 1-1/2" paddle bit
foam (suitable for the outdoors)
large hook
paint/brushes
waterproof latex primer
green paint

Steps:

  1. Place the four holes strategically around the spool, six inches from the base so that the birds can easily fly in (nine different species of bird fit through this size hole). Drill the openings and sand each hold to remove slivers.
  2. Remove the top of the spool by unscrewing the bolts.
  3. Cut two pieces of wood to merge together and form the rooms in the nesting house (figure A). Secure the dividers with finishing nails from the outside.
  4. To hang, attach a large washer to the center of the spool lid. Thread the chain through the washer and the lid. Once the chain is in place, screw the lid back on and tighten each bolt with a wrench.
  5. Cut foam into semicircles to fit around the chain on top. Attach with glue (figure B).
  6. Prime the entire piece and apply green accents to the roof and base.
