Project designed by Emi Fukushima.
Materials:
Fimo soft clay
fabric - silk, cotton, rayon or any other type but sheer
roller (brayer)
tissue blade clay tool - NuBlade Kato
needle tool
leather tool
craft knife
pasta machine
lace
wax paper
gold or silver Fimo Metallic Pulver (metallic powder)
gold or silver Rub'n Buff
rubber stamp - optional
sobo glue
sand paper
buffer
Fimo lacquer
cording or pin back
Steps:
- Condition the clay.
- Roll the clay and flatten to about 1/16 inch thick. You can do this by running the clay through the pasta machine on the thickest setting several times.
- Place the clay on the lace and press the texture onto the clay.
- Cut the fabric and apply it with glue to the back of the clay.
- Using additional conditioned clay, make a snake and encase the edge of the fabric. Trim away any excess.
- Smooth the clay with your finger, and texture it using the needle tool, or use a rubber stamp to make a texture or impression if desired.
- Rub Fimo metallic powder into the textured or stamped clay.
- Bake the clay in a 265-degree oven for 45 to 60 minutes.
- Remove the clay and let cool.
- Sand and buff the edges if needed.
- Add Rub'n Buff for highlights if desired and glaze with lacquer.
