Figure B
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares tips on how to make various versions of macaroni and cheese.
  • If you want creamier macaroni and cheese from a box, try adding one cup of cottage cheese or sour cream.

  • For an unusual flavor, add one cup of cream of mushroom soup to macaroni and cheese.

  • Turn it into a pizza. Prepare the usual macaroni-and-cheese package, mix with two eggs, then spread onto a pizza pan. Bake for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Next, add toppings and bake for another 10 minutes (figure A).

  • Add vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower or tomatoes the next time you make macaroni and cheese (figure B).

  • Macaroni and cheese makes a great base for a hearty casserole. After mixing up the mac and cheese, add other ingredients such as tuna, hamburger or vegetables.
